WHAT IS STEAM?
STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. Our programs aim to teach students to think creatively and have an engineering or design approach towards real-world problems while building on their mathematics and science base.
Our STEAM programs are made exclusively for our club by the SKY LABO team, an association with its members all affiliates of Stanford University in California, USA. These programs are grounded in constructivist approach, which promotes children centered play-based learning to become creative, confident problem solvers. With our consultancy contract with SKY LABO team, our curriculums are reevaluated after each session to be built to best match the dynamic of our classes.
WHY 2-7 YEARS OLD?
There has been numerous studies on how significant early childhood education, especially children prior to preschool impacts the growth and development of the person. Our programs are designed to facilitate and give guidance during this very important growth period.
Recommendation from Education specialist (CEO of SKY Labo and Interim director of Stanford University)
My name is Rie Kijima, and I am the Founder and CEO of SKY Labo, an educational institution that offers programs using design thinking to empower girls and ignite their curiosity and interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields. I received my Ph.D. from Stanford University and currently serve as Interim Director of International Comparative Education at Stanford Graduate School of Education. We are pleased and honored to provide Pixi Academy a child-centered, play-based learning STEAM curriculum for your precious children between the ages of 3-6 years old!
Our approach is interdisciplinary, integrating all five subjects to provide interactive and hands-on learning experience for pre-school aged children. SKY Labo’s work in early childhood education is based on a belief that children are resourceful, competent, inquisitive, and creative. Drawing our educational philosophy from constructivist theory such as the Reggio Emilia approach, we have developed a curriculum for Pixi Academy that allows children to become independent thinkers, collaborative problem-solvers, and courageous decision-makers. We also believe parents and teachers play a big role in fostering a growth mindset in young minds. Our curriculum is influenced by research on growth mindset, a term coined by Dr. Carol Dweck, a renowned and distinguished Professor of Psychology at Stanford University. We distinctively integrate these educational approaches with STEAM focused activities to peak the interests of young, curious minds!
